From the forthcoming album Amends, to be released June 25, 2021 on people | places | records.

From cellist and composer Matt Magerkurth comes Amends, a debut album of pieces for solo cello. Recorded in Bixby, Oklahoma’s Closet Studios, the music on the album is composed in a system of “road maps” -- that is, the pieces take the shape of skeletal structures that are filled differently in different performances, thereby keeping each iteration semi-improvisatory. Part of the “mending” in this album is in its process; this album features complete takes of pieces that have been layered with effects by producer Scott Bell in order to give the album a huge dynamic range - from the smallest, most delicate sounds to huge, expansive textures.

The title of this piece comes from an instruction in composer Ashlin Hunter's piece heirlooms.
